Why build someone else's business; when you can build your own....

Why build someone else's business; when you can build your own....  I've been confronted with this question quite a few times especially when I made the decision to work for someone.

I can recall while attending cosmetology school, back in 2010, and my parents insisting that they were going to get me a salon. Mind you, I never asked nor did I provoke this generosity. I rejected the offer because of business 101. Which leads me to the first reason why you should build someone else's business for a bit, especially if your the entrepreneur type.

• You can work towards your business Its almost guaranteed that most the pressure and financial responsibility fall on the owner. It takes money to make money even if its low cost. There is no denying that it'll take some cash to keep your business going. In the beauty industry it is ok to start small even if that means working for someone. You can take what you make there in make investments into your business. That's ok. Let the owner have the much larger overhead. 

There are benefits to this route. If you don't believe me just think about these points. If you are fresh out of school(whatever school for whatever field) it is a learning opportunity. Not just an opportunity to master your field and learn from others who do what you do.

• Opportunity to learning the business You have an insight on how a business function, mistakes you can avoid, things you may encounter on your journey, and  the opportunity to work on your game plan to get yours off the ground. I have seen businesses fail and succeed. Some failed because of the lack of knowledge and preparation. Don't get me wrong, you cannot prepare for everything but some mistakes can be avoided. Consider that period of working for someone else as research for your business venture.

• You can build you brand under their roof. So you have some cash flow and want to do a small scale situation. You can build your business and have the advantage of minimal overhead. Hopefully you don't have to make this type of move prematurely. (Note: An appropriate amount of clientele would be necessary for this move to be successful in most cases.)

I have come across some supper prideful people who do not understand why anyone would booth rent or be an independent contractor who is compensated thru commission. Because it is an awesome chance to build and a good idea of being an owner. You are responsible for your own success.

• Everyone is not looking to own a business; everyone doesn't need to run a business. Some people are much better employees and are ok with working under someone and prefer it. I can't hate on them for that. It is much less stressful. Omg! This is the hardest point for me to get across to some folks. EVERYBODY IS NOT MENT TO RUN A BUSINESS AND CAN CARE LESS.

So if you are unable to open this outstanding business that  you want, it is ok to give yourself a boost by working under someone else's umbrella. You will be better prepared then the person who thinks they don't have to. I know because I'm avoiding some folks mistakes on my own journey. Unfortunately I myself don't have the job security anymore... But it is all good... I learned a lot, a lot
at my last job. But for an entrepreneur minded person like myself; it definitely was not a place  build my business. For employees it would be perfect or someone learning the industry. If you have been the employee and feel like you know what you need to know; start interviewing establishments that will be conducive to building your own business. There are tons of establishments that will allow you the freedom of having your own brand and the freedom of being your own boss.

My "Glamourous" Journey part 1

 

So I am no longer working in the Southend suppose to be "High-End" spa. I must admit the last minute being there felt really good. I felt like my talent was being smothered by all the hovering ; limitations that came with their idea of what services "High End" clients want rendered and are willing pay for. Fact of the matter is there is a market for every service. Needless to say I felt freedom. "FREEDOM!!!!  The irony of the situation is I really thought I wanted this job. But that was all it was a J.O.B. 

See my passion for being Cosmetologist was slowly depleting from my body after awhile. I was at the point of putting my dream of having a beauty & spa service to the back burner so I can be alert enough to build their nail department. But at the end enlightenment came. I completely tuned the "pit-bull in a skirt manager" out, and for the first time listened to that voice that was coming from that dark place inside me. As I focused in and listened, it seemed as though that voice lightened up the dark and everything around me. It said:

"Why are you fighting to keep this. This isn't where you need to be. You learned all you need. Give this woman a hug and thank her for her time. Your free. Now move forward because there is something better for you." 

I immediately let go and gave her not one but two hugs. The look on the spa managers face was priceless. I left with my head held up high and refused to shed a tear. I actually had a sense of joy considering that the day prior I had planned to empty out my work space that I have been paying rent on every week and on that same token hadn't been there in weeks, and a strange set of coincident caused me to not quit that day. But I was definitely going to quit on the following day after I got of 6:00 pm. I almost lost this place that I intended to grow my business out of; and this J.O.B. kept me from building my own stability. Lets be honest, I am 26 years old with 2 children, I  don't have too much time to lollygag and procrastinate on my goals. Most people in my position don't have an opportunity to go for there dreams. Now instead of quitting on myself I was able to come back to me full time. Lets just say God works in mysterious ways.
